South Florida Heating Up !!!

Cobia and pompano were hot today and a lot of permit around. We jumped 2 nice tarpon yesterday in the backcountry. Big Jacks are roaming in schools of several hundred and are easy targets for beginners. The pompano today were awesome, every cast.
Here is a picture of my friend Indio holding a 9-pound jack that he caught yesterday.

Low Water Steelhead
Record days without rain have left western Oregon streams low and very clear with many steelhead anglers crying the blues.  You know how some anglers love to cry the blues.  Others just capitolize on the lack of competition and the knowledge that the fish populations are going to be more condensed due to the lack of diversified holding places.  Tiny flies, 3X tippets and a 6-weight rod are the combination the pays off for my buddy Jay (above).  He knows how to make his guide look good.  Thank goodness.  You know some guides need it.

New World Records On FLYH2O FPF Flies

Tom Evans fishing  off the coast of Australia set two new world records. He caught the fish out of Port Stephens fishing aboard Allure with Dean Butler as guide Captain Darren Haydon skipper & Bo Jenyns & Jarad Boshammer as crew.
Tom finished up with great fishing with 2 world record black marlin 183 pounds on 12 pound tippet and 75 pounds on 6 pound tippet. Here is a montage of pics from his marlin battles.
Dean Butler goes on to say, "We also caught 4 striped marlin to 200 pounds and 4 black marlin to 180 pounds on 20 pound (10 kg) tippet released all on FPFs of course.  I figure I have taken over 30 records on FPFs
(Flashy Profile Fly)now which is pretty bloody cool !"

The plan is to provide a week-end that will entertain and inform you.
Of course Bob Larsell and Laura Coblentz will be back with
their famous hospitality trailer.

If you are interested in meeting other steelhead spey fishers and hope to learn a lot about spey casting and more about steelhead fishing, the Sandy River Spey Clave is for you.  The  event  will start at Oxbow Park on  Saturday morning  the  14th  of May  and  conclude  on Sunday 15th.

This  time of  year there  should be plenty  of Summer  Steelhead.  It  is  also the peak of the  Spring Chinook  run. The  days are long and  the  weather is warm.
This event was first proposed by The International Spey Page and Discussion Group.
If you are interested in spey rod casting and fishing, we would strongly recommend that you join this warm friendly group.
