Cobia and pompano were hot today and a lot of permit around. We jumped 2 nice tarpon yesterday in the backcountry. Big Jacks are roaming in schools of several hundred and are easy targets for beginners. The pompano today were awesome, every cast.
Here is a picture of my friend Indio holding a 9-pound jack that he caught yesterday.

|Low Water Steelhead|
|Record days without rain have left western Oregon streams low and very clear with many steelhead anglers crying the blues. You know how some anglers love to cry the blues. Others just capitolize on the lack of competition and the knowledge that the fish populations are going to be more condensed due to the lack of diversified holding places. Tiny flies, 3X tippets and a 6-weight rod are the combination the pays off for my buddy Jay (above). He knows how to make his guide look good. Thank goodness. You know some guides need it.|
