There are very few Classic American type fly reels available on the market today. Those that have survived are mostly built by small shops at huge prices. The Loop Classic is both more affordable and more reliable than any of the competitors. The Loop Classic is equipped with ventilated side-plates in the newest version. Beneath the stunning looks of the Classic fly reel is the ultra-modern Power Matrix Drag System. This monstrous braking system will subdue the strongest of fish in the harshest conditions. The completely waterproof drag system benefits from a pronounced ‘click’ that signals “fish on” through your ears into your every vein. The friction of the "clicker" alone is enough to keep this reel from back-lashing, and combine with the disc drag gives this reel one of the smoothest braking systems available. Many of my clients use these reels, and some have been on the water hundreds of days.
The Classic is completely corrosion resistant and benefits from a new ergonomic handle design with integrated leader retainer on the counterbalance. Available in either left or right-hand wind, each reel is individually numbered and presented in a handcrafted leather case. With its old world ‘classic’ looks and ultra-modern braking power, you will get the best of both worlds. Loop calls it tradition with an attitude.
Please note: Model 46 does not have the Power matrix drag system. It
comes with a very light and smooth adjustable click and drag, which functions
in both directions. This function is designed only to prevent spool overrun.

|This is the Game-Changer in two-hand fly rods. There is nothing else quite like it that I have found...and I think I have thrown about everything that could be classed as comparable. I'm talking about the Loop 8130-4 Cross S1. Yes, I said Loop. And yes, it really does cost $1035. Loop spent two years developing the Cross S1 Series of fly rods using the new 3M™ Powerlux™ nano resin composites. In July we used a couple of their single-handers; a CRO1190-4MF in the Sea of Cortes, and a CRO990-4MF in Cuba. These rods were impressive to say the least. The 8130-4 Cross S1 two-hander has a pretty fast taper (well Loop is a Scandinavian company). I'm sure it was designed as a Scandi rod, as a matter of fact all the lines they sent with it were GDC 485-grain Scandi lines. But let me tell you that it is also a great Skagit rod when mated with a RIO MAX 575-grain, and 11' of T-14. With this line the 8130-4 Cross S1 requires only a very short D-loop with minimal amount of tension to throw fairly long casts from very confined positions. This is because this rod comes under power so quickly and releases stored energy just as quickly.|

|Cathy’s Fleeing Crab|
| It might sound like a strange time to design a new fly pattern, but we were stuck in Hurricane Mitch in a boarded up Holiday Inn Express in Cancun, Mexico, for three days. There was’t much to do except watch the weather, read, and tie flies. Most of the crabs that we had observed throughout the Yucatan coastline were tan in color, and if frightened would aggressively flee. I had a few packs of tan L&L Hi Viz wing material with me and an assortment of sili-legs, so I started experimenting with a few crab-like profiles. Later after the hurricane passed we were back at Boca Paila fishing lodge in the Yucatan and there were permit everywhere- schools of them. Apparently the storm had flushed them out to sea and they were returning to the lagoons and most importantly- were feeding. I had opportunities to try the two or three of the new patterns that I came up with while in Cancun, and settled on what today we call "Cathy's Fleeing Crab". I’ve caught permit in Los Roques, Venezuela; the Bahamas; and the Yucatan, Mexico through Belize. It’s my go-to fly whenever I’m in permit country.
